HIGH CHOLESTEROL

DEFINITION
A total blood cholesterol level that is higher than the recommended safe range, especially elevated low-density lipoproteins (LDS). Increased levels of LDL are associated with plaque deposits on artery walls that narrow them and restrict blood flow to the brain, kidneys, genitals, extremities, and heart. In the general population, the results usually range from 100 to 280 mg/dl. Borderline risk level is 200 mg/dl and high-risk level is over 240 mg/dl. An HDL level under 35 mg/dl is considered risky.

COMPLICATION
May lead to atherosclerosis, heart disease, and stroke. It is the primary causes of heart disease, because it produces deposits in arteries.
