Cirrhosis
DEFINITION
Chronic hardening and scarring of the liver, leading to loss of normal liver function. The most common cause of cirrhosis is excessive alcohol consumption. A frequent cause of cirrhosis is the HCV (Hepatitis C Virus). Malnutrition and chronic inflammation can also lead to liver malfunction.
COMPLICATION
› Life-threatening hemorrhage, especially from the esophagus and stomach.
› Liver cancer.
› Body poisoning and coma from a buildup of ammonia and other body waste.
RECOMMENDATIONS
› If cirrhosis is caused by alcoholism, stop drinking.
› Dandelion aid in liver and stomach repair by cleansing the blood stream.
› Alfalfa helps to build a healthy digestive tract and is a good source of vitamin K to prevent bleeding.
› Persons with cirrhosis are often deficient in vitamin K. Eat plenty green leafy vegetables.
› Lifestyle changes to reduce stress.
› Eat a high-fiber diet, plenty of fruits and vegetables.
› Do not take any drugs except for those prescribed by your doctor.
› Do not eat any of the following: butter, margarine, vegetable shortening, any fats, fried or fatty foods, potato chips, and all refined and processed foods. These overwork and damage the liver.
